Flying Fish Wedding Invitations For Your Destination Wedding To Barbados

Flying Fish Boho Beach Wedding Invitations from Concertina Press

If you're taking the leap together, celebrate in style with these lovely Flying Fish Wedding Invitations - or should I say taking the plunge? Although they look totally imaginary, flying fish are real! They don't "fly" in the same way that birds do, by flapping their wings - instead they propel themselves out of the water at a high speed and spread their "wings" (actually front fins) open to glide. In Japan in 2008 a film crew recorded a fish gliding for over 45 seconds! That's a long time to hold your breath! They can travel up to 43 miles an hour doing their swimming glides.

These flying fish invitations are great for any beach wedding, but they would be perfect for your destination wedding in Barbados! While Flying Fish are found in oceans all over the world, Barbados is known as "the land of the flying fish" and the fish is found on their one dollar coin.

Look at how beautiful the white sandy beaches are in Barbados, along with the turquoise blue water - they would be a great backdrop for your boho wedding on the beach. Many hotels in Barbados offer wedding package deals for destination weddings. Purple beach wedding invitations - octopus and seashells

Octopus Wedding Invitations | Concertina Press
Purple Seashell Wedding Invitations |Concertina Press

Usually the colors I work with for Concertina Press wedding invitations are navy blue, light blue and teal, but Christine had a special request for purple invitations! Purple happens to be my favorite color, so I found it exciting to create these special Octopus wedding announcements and Spiral Shell wedding invitations, and they turned out beautifully.

If you like my designs, but they don't match your wedding colors, or you have another color you'd like the envelopes to be, just get in touch! Most of my designs work with a variety of colors, and I can change the main lettering to match the envelopes.

Purple Beach Wedding Invitations and Save the Dates

While most of Concertina Press's beach wedding invitations are either blue, aqua or navy (with a hint of green or coral thrown in) I occasionally get custom requests for purple or plum wedding invitations. I'm always happy to work with couples so that they can get what they like, and changes to text color and envelope color are free.

Above you can see a purple variation on my waves wedding invitations, and below you can see my ombre dashes invitation, which usually comes in shades of blue, in shades of plum! Are you interested in purple nautical invitations? Contact me!

Green Octopus Wedding Invitations

lovely blue green octopus wedding invitations with scientific illustrations by Concertina Press

This stunning octopus wedding invitation always makes a big impression! Did you know that a full grown octopus can fit through a tiny 1" hole? They don't have any bones in their body, except for their beak, which they use to eat fish. Check out this amazing video if you don't believe me.

This octopus wedding invitation has been popular with folks getting married in Florida, on the beach. The aqua and white colors lend themselves nicely to a beach wedding. If you're interested in a sample you can find them here: Octopus Wedding Invitations - and of course you can always contact me with questions!

Jellyfish Wedding Invitations

Jellyfish Wedding Invitations from scientific illustrations - Concertina Press
The gorgeous jellyfish on this jellyfish wedding invitation were drawn by famous German naturalist and scientific illustrator Ernst Haeckel - I first saw his work at the marine biology library I worked for a few years back - they had full sized teaching charts of his amazing jellyfish and shellfish. I knew I had to make some gorgeous invites out of them!

These jellyfish wedding invitations have been particularly popular with folks getting married on the sandy beaches of California. They'd be lovely for any beach wedding, or even a wedding in an aquarium! If you'd like a sample you can find them here: Jellyfish Wedding Invitations, and of course you can also contact me if you have any questions.

Pink Squid Wedding Invitations

Delicate pink squid wedding invitation with vintage scientific illustrations by Concertina Press

Hmmm...bet you don't see squid wedding invitations all that often! These gorgeous and delicate invites were created using two separate scientific illustrations - one of the squid, and the other of the seaweed. I really liked how the waviness of the seaweed mimicked the waving arms of the squid. I think these would be really lovely for a marine biologist's wedding, maybe a wedding at an aquarium? You can learn more and purchase a sample here: Pink Squid Wedding Invitations. You can also contact me directly if you have questions about this or any other invitation.

Cuttlefish and Coral Wedding Invitations

unusual cuttlefish wedding invitations by Concertina Press

These cuttlefish wedding invitations were one of my very first designs! I love cuttlefish - did you know they have one of the biggest brains in proportion to their body? They also don't have any kind of skeleton, so they rely on camouflage to hide from predators, and have the ability to change both the color and texture of their skin in the blink of an eye.

I thought that a cuttlefish invitation was kind of risky - after all, I've never seen anything like it! However, it's been a big hit, especially with couples getting married at the beach or having an aquarium wedding. You can purchase a sample for yourself here: Cuttlefish Wedding Invitations. You can also contact me directly if you have additional questions.

Navy Blue Compass Wedding Invitations

Navy Blue Compass Wedding Invitation by Concertina Press

I designed these lovely navy compass wedding invitations at a suggestion from my friend Stacey of Stacey Hedman Photography (check out her wedding photography - she still uses film and it looks amazing!). She thought that plenty of brides were looking for a really classy nautical wedding invite in a navy and white color scheme - especially here on Cape Cod, and she was right! They've been a big hit ever since I introduced them.

You can purchase a sample invitation here: Navy Compass Wedding Invitation Sample , if you're interested in seeing them in person! And of course if you have more questions you can always contact me.

Nautical Wedding Invitations - July 2012

More orders going out - This time my Waves Invitations, Navy Compass Wedding Invitations and Tying the Knot Save the Dates. They all look wonderful!

Waves Wedding Invitations - Concertina Press
Navy Compass Wedding Invitations - Concertina Press
Tying the Knot Save the Dates - Concertina Press

The waves wedding invitations I did there at the top have slight variation on the original, with pale blue envelopes instead of white, since they opted to go without the liners. I think they came out beautifully and went to a couple getting married in New York.
The Navy Compass invitations are a nautical wedding classic, and went to a couple in Alaska.
The tying the knot save the dates are a variation on my original design that used pale blue envelopes and a pale blue rope - these have a navy blue and white rope in a square knot, and navy blue envelopes for a wedding in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Colorful Wedding Invitations - June 2012

Just a few bright and colorful invites I've been working on lately!

The first ones with the bird and the trees might look familiar - they're based on my sister's wedding invitations. Jenna from SewSavoirFaire specially requested them after seeing them on my blog. (Check out more photos on her blog!)

The second ones are a variation of my Scripty wedding invitations and are also a special order - the bride is a merchandise display person at H&M - very appropriate!
Finally the third picture show the invites all wrapped up in a lovely woodsy paper! I do love wrapping up things :)

Sea Turtle Wedding Invitations - How They're Made

Looking at the original scientific plates below, you'd never think that the sea turtles pictured could ever be the same ones featured on my Sea Turtle wedding invitations, but they are!

Using my computer, I digitally restored the old, yellowed sea turtles and I created these lovely beach wedding invitations from them! They are perfect for a beach wedding - here in Florida during sea turtle nesting season everyone does their part to turn off outside lights, and the street lights are shielded so that the baby turtles will be able to follow the moonlight into the ocean.

You can purchase these sea turtle invitations in my online shop or on etsy. You're welcome to contact me if you have any questions! I'm happy to modify colors to fit your wedding.

New Beach Wedding Invitation Orders - Sent Off to Happy Couples!

It's been a busy spring! Just think, one year ago today, Concertina Press was started! (And many years before that, I was born! Happy Birthday to me, hahaha)
You can get your own beach wedding invitations in my nautical etsy shop. You can also keep up with my latest ideas on my Concertina Press Facebook page!

Tide Pool Wedding Invitations

Not all beaches are sandy! I created my Tide Pool wedding invitations with the rocky shores of the Pacific coastline in mind. Many animals like sea stars, crabs, limpets, barnacles and snails live in the intertidal zone between the high and low tide line. Many of them, like sea snails, have both gills and lungs so that they can breath out of the water and in the water - pretty neat!

Take a look at the original French scientific plate - I've cropped it, but it also used to share the page with a great big hippopotamus:

I paired it with one of my favorite script fonts in green for an all natural nautical wedding invitation that celebrates the diversity of beaches around the world. It's printed on lovely off white, lightly textured bamboo cardstock. The 30% recycled envelopes are from the totally awesome US made French Paper company that uses all hydro-electric power. You can purchase a sample in my wedding invitation online shop or in my etsy store.

Spiral Shell Wedding Invitation - How They're Made

Aren't these colorful shells gorgeous? As soon as I saw this 19th century French scientific illustration plate I couldn't wait to make a lovely beach wedding invitation, and the Spiral Shell wedding invitation was born. I'm envisioning a lovely seaside ceremony with warm summer sun, white sands and blue waters! In reality our coastline up here in Cape Cod is kind of rocky - wishful thinking maybe? haha, anyway take a look at the original -

Using a little photoshoppery and artistic license I created these lovely beach wedding invitations. They're flat printed on 100% tree free cotton paper, which gives them a great hand-painted look. You can purchase a sample in my online shop or on etsy.

Sea Snail Wedding Invitations - How They're Made

They may be a little unusual, but I love the pinks and blues in this exotic looking frilly sea snail. Maybe you're getting married in the Caribbean or in an Aquarium? Either way, these sea snail wedding invitations would be perfect for your nautical wedding, if you're feeling adventurous!

Take a look at the original! The paper was yellow from age on this 19th century illustration:

Using a little computer magic and artistic license I made the beach wedding invitations that you see below. I think they came out really nicely! You can purchase a sample in my online shop or on etsy.
