I created these shark wedding invitations specially for a wedding at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Having your wedding at an aquarium is such a fun idea because you and your guests will have an unforgettable experience tying the knot with a gorgeous backdrop of sea life. Most aquariums have an event planner who can help you  - couples I've worked with have gotten married at the Florida Aquarium, The Georgia Aquarium, New England Aquarium, North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll,  Birch Aquarium in San Diego, California and the Seattle Aquarium in Washington.

I was inspired to create these by the time I spent working a the Marine Biological Lab in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. I worked at a science library there scanning old illustrations to be part of the public domain. I absolutely loved the antique illustrations, and brought them back to life by digitally restoring them on the computer to have new life as wedding invitations!

An underwater wedding would be amazing too! This beautiful photo was taken by Lands End Films during a scuba wedding in Cabos, Mexico.

I also absolutely love snorkeling, and I'm also dive certified (although honestly I think I still love snorkeling the most because you don't need so much equipment) so being underwater gives me so many great ideas for my invitations. Sharks might seem scary, but they're an important part of the ocean's eco system as apex predators, and they're more scared of you than you are of them...usually.

Octopus Wedding Invitations with stunning double sided printing perfect for your Nautical Wedding

These navy blue Octopus wedding invitations have been one of my most popular designs over the years, and for good reason. The eye-catching antique science illustration of  a big blue octopus on the invite makes every card totally unusual and beautiful. I create my invitations by digitally restoring scientific illustrations hidden away in old out-of-copyright publications. My first job out of college was working at a prestigious world-renowned marine science library (the MBL/WHOI library in Woods Hole, Massachusetts - famous home to the Alvin Submarine that discovered the Titanic). 

One of my jobs was cataloging old publications to be scanned into a national archive. I fell in love with the amazing "cabinet of curiosities" style illustrations of sea life like Ernst Haeckel's Jellyfish and Alberts Seba's Cuttlefish. I thought, what better way to give these old images new life than in the form of beautiful wedding invitations and stationery that would be treasured keepsakes for years to come? And that's how Concertina Press was started! Don't get me wrong...I also loved working in a library, but it turns out I like working more closely with people than my job deep in the stacks allowed!

So allow me to re-introduce my Navy Octopus Invitation Set that comes with everything you see below, including invites, rsvp cards, website cards, envelopes - and now with the following improvements (at no additional cost, I might add) a lovely new handwritten style font, and, DOUBLE SIDED PRINTING! These 20th Anniversary Vow Renewal Invitations at the Monterey Bay Aquarium are Absolutely Beautiful

How pretty are these Coral Reef vow renewal invitations? When this lovely couple emailed me about creating a special invitation for their 20th Anniversary vow renewal at the Monterey Bay Aquarium I was so excited! I absolutely love the ocean and the sea creatures that live within it and was more than happy to create a special ocean-themed invitation that combined several of my designs, including the Coral Reef invitation and also the Squid Invitation. I love that by having their event at the Aquarium, Ellen & Joe not only made their vow renewal extra memorable, but also educated their guests about the importance of our world's oceans as well!

Ellen & Joe were also concerned about the environmental impact of their invitations, so we printed them on 100% recycled paper and paired them with sustainable forestry certified envelopes. I love how the red coral pairs with the aqua colored envelopes. The pink squid are a fun touch on the additional insert card, and the RSVP card features a seahorse entwined in green seaweed. These were perfect invitations to set the tone for a Vow Renewal at the Aquarium!

Shark Wedding Invitations Made From 150 Year Old Science Illustrations

Can you believe this pretty Shark and Coral Reef wedding invitation came from that 150-year-old yellowed science illustration? People often ask about the illustrations on my nautical wedding invites. One of my favorite parts of my job is bringing old science illustrations like this blue-tipped shark back to life using the power of digital photo restoration. 

One of my first jobs out of college was working as a library assistant at the beautiful scientific library at the Marine Biology Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. When I was there I discovered all the amazing old illustrations hidden away on the shelves, and was inspired to bring them back to life as stationery! No books or illustrations were harmed in the making of these invitations - I work from scans of the originals.

For the couple I worked with on the Shark invitation pictured above, I changed the font of the invitation and RSVP to be more readable, leaving the names in the original calligraphy font. These Jellyfish Invitations Are Perfect For Your Aquarium Wedding Reception or Ceremony

One of the most beautiful and memorable wedding venues out there is at the Aquarium! These Jellyfish wedding invitations I designed really set the tone for your aquarium wedding or reception.  Imagine you and your special someone framed by the huge tank, having your wedding under the sea! Not only is the setting naturally beautiful, your guests will also have a fabulous time looking around at the exhibits.

Below is a beautiful custom wedding program I designed for a couple getting married at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California that included a map of the floor layout so that guests could easily see which exhibits were open to them during the reception. If you're having your wedding at the aquarium, you've already chosen one of my favorite wedding venues of all time! I love the aquarium - the closest big one to me is the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. I absolutely love the jellyfish exhibit and the giant grouper fish. I get so much inspiration for my nautical designs, and I have many that are popular for weddings at the aquarium.

Having your wedding at the aquarium is awesome because your guests will have beautiful exhibits to look at, and the ambiance will already be there, without the need for fancy lighting. Many aquariums also have an outdoor deck, so you can get married outside, and then have your reception indoors by the big tank.
